Thyroid storm manifests as hyperthermia, altered consciousness, gastrointestinal dysfunction, and/or cardiovascular complications including tachyarrhythmias and high-output congestive heart failure; treatment includes intensive supportive care, anti-thyroid drugs, beta adrenergic receptor blockade, as well as iodine and additional therapies that reduce circulating thyroid hormone amount and action.
