An efficient method has been developed for the direct transformation of allyl sulfone to β-keto sulfones by their reaction with N-acyl pyrroles under transition metal-free conditions. Simply combining equivalent N-acyl pyrroles, allyl sulfones and NaN(SiMe3)2 enabled the preparation of a broad range of β-keto sulfones.
