Real-world effectiveness of stem cell transplantation for multiple sclerosis

Autologous haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (AHSCT) offers effective therapy for people with multiple sclerosis (MS), according to new real-world data. The UK study comprised 168 people with relapsing–remitting MS and 103 people with progressive MS. Five years after treatment, 88.6% of participants were relapse-free and 62.4% were progression-free, with significantly higher rates of treatment response being observed in people with the progressive form. The results indicate that AHSCT is effective in stabilizing inflammatory activity and neurological disability, leading to durable remission for people with MS.
